Want a career in childcare or early learning? Start here! This course will help you develop yourskills and understanding of working with children. It’s a great introduction to all aspects ofearly learning and childcare, offering a mixture of theory and practical activities including child development, play, families and collaborating with others. You’ll build your knowledge, have fun, and start your journey towards becoming a registered practitioner.

Course description

Your studies will give you an introduction to the skills and knowledge required to establish good practice in childcare. You'll have the opportunity to undertake national units at SCQF Level 5 over 18 weeks. With further study, this course provides a good grounding for employment in childcare and related areas. 

Access to Early Learning and Childcare contains a mix of theoretical and practical units which will support developing knowledge and skills. Some of the subjects you will study may include:   

  • Child development 
  • Play in early learning and childcare 
  • Contemporary families 
  • Working with others. 

Please note that this course does not include a practical training placement.

Entry requirements

  • Three National 4 qualifications, or equivalent, one of which should be English
  • Please ensure you complete the personal statement section of the application form, providing details about why you want to study this course and any relevant experience you have.
  • Applications are also invited from those who have relevant life and/or work experience.
