A detailed introduction to electrical engineering.

Course description

The aim of this course is to take you to a standard which will qualify you for a National Certificate Group Award, enabling you to develop knowledge, understanding and skills in electrical engineering. It will enhance the employment potential of successful students, and put you in a strong position for progressing towards further study.

This is a 12 credit SQA NC Award, and to gain the award you are required to be successful in 12 credits.

What you will experience

You will explore the basic principles of electrical engineering. The main units are as follows:

  • Electrical Principles
  • Fundamental Electrical Systems
  • Electrical Testing and Measurement
  • Single and Three Phase Induction Motors
  • Cable Ratings and Overcurrent Protection Devices

What you will need

All materials are supplied or provided through Library+ and online resources.

Entry requirements

You should have a Mathematics or Physics qualification at Standard Grade Credit, Intermediate 2 or National 5 level.
