An advanced qualification to prepare you for further study or employment in 3D computer animation.
Course description
The HND 3D Computer Animation course will provide you with the technical and creative skills essential for a successful career in the animation industry.
Using industry-standard software and equipment, you’ll gain hands-on experience as you navigate the animation pipeline from concept creation and modelling, to animation and post-production.
You will engage with a broad spectrum of topics including digital and traditional drawing, character design, modelling and rigging, environmental modelling, special effects and motion graphics.

- You will have to provide your own A3 workbooks and backup storage device.
- You may also wish to have an A3 portfolio case for storing/ carrying your work.
Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)
This course is a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) programme. This means that you are required to have access to your own laptop computer, netbook or similar device in class each day that you are in college.
If you do not already own a suitable device you can apply for a student loan from SAAS, if eligible, to fund the cost of purchasing a device.
Entry requirements
- Two Highers preferably including Art & Design, plus recent examples of work that demonstrate an appropriate skill level
Or
- Completion of an appropriate SCQF Level 6 course – Filmcraft & Animation
- For those returning to education, life skills and experience may allow entry
- Advanced entry directly to year 2 with 15 credits from HNC 3D Computer Animation.
