Course description
Sound engineers work with musicians, producers, web designers and programme makers to help create high quality soundtracks in music and speech. This foundation level course is designed for those with an interest in sound engineering who may want to consider a professional career. It provides basic training in all aspects of the subject, from multi-track and stereo recording to digital audio workstations.

In this course, you will also study five Core Skills, including communication, ICT and numeracy, which can help you to gain the essential skills required for life, learning and employment.
Entry requirements
There are no formal entry requirements although you must have an enthusiasm for sound production and recording. Entry is by audition and interview, including short communication/numeracy diagnostic papers. Your application and interview will form part of the selection process.
Progression
Skills gained on this course will help prepare you for the HNC in Sound Production and those who are successful are guaranteed to be considered for the higher level courses.
If you choose not to continue your studies, you can use your skills to find work in the music industry in sound installation, stage management, game sound design, sound editing and education, as live sound engineers, audio/visual technicians, recording engineers, broadcast engineers and sound designers.
