Integrity
Having integrity means being honest, trustworthy and having good morals.
It’s all about: honesty, trust and self-control.
Your integrity skill
If you were given too much change in a shop, would you ask the cashier to give you the right amount?
Having integrity is about sticking to and acting on your beliefs and values. What you know to be right beats any fears or emotions you may have.
You may have had to take responsibility for your actions when it was uncomfortable. In doing this, you’ll have used your integrity.
Top tips for developing integrity
- In general: Doing your bit for the environment and making sure your rubbish is in the correct bin. This way others won’t need to do it for you.
- In school: Speaking up if you see someone being treated unfairly in the playground, in class or online – even after school.
- In work: Keeping sensitive information to yourself and not sharing it with colleagues in meetings, social media or emails.
Describing your integrity to employers
Employers will want to hear about how you’ve shown integrity in your CVs, applications and interviews. They’ll want to know you can be trusted.
You may be asked to describe a time you:
- stayed calm and made the right decision under pressure
- stuck to what you thought was right, even if it wasn’t the easiest choice
- owned up to a mistake you could’ve hidden
