Skills Development Scotland provides My World of Work as part of our public role. We use your information to run the website and make sure it works properly.

The main reason we use your information is because we carry out work that’s in the public interest. This is known as public task under data protection law (Article 6(1)(e) of the UK GDPR).

Sometimes we'll ask for permission before using your information. For example, we’ll ask if you want to accept optional cookies or receive marketing updates. You can change your mind at any time.

When you create an account on My World of Work, we ask for your:

• name
• email address
• postcode
• date of birth
• phone number (if you’re happy to share it)

We also collect information you tell us when you:

• use ‘My Achievements’ and ‘My Profile’ – for example, you might tell us about a qualification you achieved
• create a CV as part of the ‘CV Builder’ – this can include your address and work history
• subscribe to our email notifications, services or newsletters
• arrange a phone appointment with a careers adviser – this could include your employment status and phone number
• upload a Marketplace opportunity as an employer – this includes the employer’s name, email address, company details and anything else you share as part of the opportunity

To improve My World of Work, we also collect information about your computer and details of your visits to the website. This includes your:

• IP address
• geographical location
• browser type and version
• operating system
• referral source
• length of visit to the website
• page views
• navigation journey on the website

We use your information to:

• run the website
• personalise the website to give you the best experience possible
• give you access to certain parts of My World of Work
• send you general (non-marketing) messages
• answer your questions and handle complaints
• send you newsletters and other marketing messages if you agreed to receive them – you can stop these whenever you like
• improve our services and website
• provide you with high-quality careers information and advice
• show your name and school on a leaderboard, as part of My World of Work’s online career games, if you agree to this
• upload videos to our website that show named individuals – only when those people are aware and have given us permission to share the footage
• share details of a Marketplace opportunity that you, as an employer, have uploaded to the website

We make sure your information is safe and secure. Our staff are trained to follow strict rules that stop your information being accessed or shared without permission.

We might share your information with trusted partners who help us provide services. Our partners must keep your information safe and use it only for the agreed reasons.

You’ll find links to other websites on My World of Work. We don’t control these websites, so you should check their privacy policies before sharing information with them.

Cookies are small text files on your device that help us understand how you use My World of Work and improve the website. You can choose not to accept cookies, but some areas of the website might not work without them.

If you accepted cookies but have changed your mind, or would like more information, read our cookies policy.

We keep your information for as long as you have a My World of Work account.

If you’ve not signed in for more than three years, we’ll delete your account along with all your personal information. Any information we keep will be anonymous and used only to improve our services.

For employers: If you upload an opportunity to Marketplace, we’ll keep your personal information for as long as the opportunity remains open. Once you unpublish the opportunity from Marketplace, we’ll delete all your personal information.

To delete your My World of Work account, go to the settings area of your dashboard and select ‘Delete account’.

If you met with a Skills Development Scotland careers adviser or took part in one of our programmes, we might keep some information about you for those services.

You can update personal information in the settings area within your My World of Work account. If you have any problems updating your information, email our support team on mywow.support@sds.co.uk.

You have the right to:

• view the personal information we hold about you
• understand what we do with your personal information
• ask for changes to the information we hold about you – it’s free to request this
