What it's like
Want to play a part in keeping our world connected? As a satellite systems technician, you'll install, maintain and repair the technology that powers everything from TV broadcasts to weather forecasting and global communications.
You'll focus on the technical side of satellite systems, including ground stations and the equipment that sends and receives signals. It’s a hands-on role solving problems with cutting-edge technology and sometimes travelling to remote locations. The work is exciting, especially when you’re fixing live systems or launching new satellite services.
Satellite systems technicians work in industries such as:
telecommunications
broadcasting
defence
space exploration
disaster response
Some specialise in installation, while others focus on diagnostics or network integration.
Your tasks might include:
installing and aligning satellite dishes and antennas
testing signal strength and troubleshooting connection issues
upgrading firmware and software on satellite equipment
performing routine maintenance on ground station hardware
documenting repairs and system changes for compliance
supporting engineers during satellite launches or system upgrades
